Happy Memories part 1

Created by Nicholas 5 years ago

I am Nick, brother of David (Diddle) Baughn who wrote "Busy Bee and more" and I would like to add some memories of Cad.

One late night/early morning at Cad's house in Laurence Street I watched Cad weld together a piston to be used in the bike that he was travelling to the IoM TT races on the next day. I remember thinking that there was no chance of it getting Cad there, I should have known better regarding Cad's welding skills as it made it all the way.

Cad had an amazing ability in riding motor bikes and I remember how we all used to sit on a wall at the Busy Bee and watch riders coming down the A41 and going round the roundabout at the Busy Bee as fast as they could. A highlight was Cad who had his bike cranked over at an impossible angle and was probably the quickest one.

Many of us used to make trips to the 59 Club from the Busy Bee and later rode up the M1 to Toddington services just to drink some coffee and enjoy the ride.

On one trip to the IoM TT races a crowd of us went out for the night to a show in a club in Douglas. On the way there we stopped for a trip on a boat around the bay. To get to the boat you had to walk on what was virtually a plank of wood across the water. The man in charge said "one at a time only" and Cad set off. When he was almost there a girl got on the plank and sent it into a bouncing motion and deposited Cad and the girl in the murky waters of Douglas Bay.

We went back to the hotel for Cad to change, like the rest of us he only had a few clothes to change into. He settled on some jeans and an orange jumper and we set off to the show.

During the show a very sexy girl singer did her stint during which she kept referring to "see the guy with the orange jumper on" much to our amusement and Cad's embarrassment. Cad had the last laugh though as when she finished her stint she came across to our table and started to pay Cad a whole load of attention.

We didn't see Cad later that evening but I am sure his night ended a lot better than it started.
